Feedback From A Current INCE Representative On The CAOHC Committee

Working with CAOHC is a great opportunity for anyone with a passion related to hearing conservation. The Council is made up of experts in all elements of hearing conservation. I enjoy being part of the diverse group of Doctors, Audiologists, Academics, IH Professionals, Safety Professionals and Engineers working for common goals. You will learn from everyone on the Council and CAOHC truly values all members input. The time commitment is very manageable and meetings are scheduled well in advance. The structure of the Council allows each member to select the amount of time they have to commit as well as which elements/projects they would like to focus on. Staff at CAOHC are very professional.  This shows in the outstanding support they provided to all Council Members. The CAOHC Staff support makes it easy to stay connected as you are part of the CAOHC Council. CAOHC is a fulfilling group to be part of and is a top notch group for hearing conservation leaders! If you are a Noise Control Professional that is interested in hearing conservation, submit your nomination to serve as an INCE Representative on CAOHC's Council now!

Details From CAOHC

INCE is one of the Component Professional Organizations (CPOs), which makes up the governing body for the Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation (CAOHC).  The mission of CAOHC is to promote hearing loss prevention by enhancing the quality of occupational hearing loss prevention practices. CAOHC accomplishes this mission by the collaborative and strategic efforts of 18 individuals that represent nine organizations which support occupational hearing health and safety. Your organization, INCE, is a critical component of this organization. Additionally, members of the Council include representatives appointed by the following eight other CPOs: American Academy of Audiology, American Academy of Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery, American Association of Occupational Health Nurses, American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, American Industrial Hygiene Association, American Society of Safety Engineers, American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, and the Military Audiology Association.

Current AIHA representatives are Dr. Kim Riegel, and Charles Moritz.  Dr. Riegel' s term is ending this year thus we are in need of a new representative from INCE.

The commitment to the Council includes meeting with all 18 representatives two times per year, once in May and once in November. In addition Council members are required to support the fulfillment of our strategic plan by participating in projects such as the on-going development of curriculum for Occupational Hearing Conservationists, creation of supporting materials such as on-line courses in Noise Measurement, and Hearing Conservation just to name a few current projects.

In addition, it is important to know that the there is no cost to you or your companies to attend the Council meetings.  CAOHC assumes all responsibility for travel expenses. It is important that the appointed person be a capable writer and an effective public speaker since Council members are often asked to write articles for the CAOHC UPDATE newsletter and to participate in instructional workshops. These assignments may involve additional travel (at CAOHC expense).

Many thanks for considering filling this role.

Charlie
