For Immediate Release
RESTON, VA. – June 9, 2020 --The Institute of Noise Control Engineering (INCE-USA) has announced that 10 industry acoustical professionals were awarded the highest professional designation for the practice of noise control after meeting all the requirements of the INCE Board Certification Program.
INCE administers the only noise control professional board certification program in North America. Many projects and expert witness testimony require noise control engineers to have INCE Board Certification to assure professional competence. Board certification is available to any noise control professional meeting the specified requirements and working in noise control engineering, architectural acoustics, noise and vibration problem resolution, environmental noise, product noise control or noise, vibration and harshness, regardless of their country of residence.
“INCE board certification provides an opportunity for qualified noise control professionals to demonstrate their education, experience and expertise in noise control engineering,” said Paul Burge, vice president, INCE Board Certification. “INCE’s mission is to enable a quieter world through education, awareness, advocacy and technical advancement. We do this by enhancing the professional status of noise control engineers, setting standards for the technical competence of personnel practicing noise control engineering and recognizing competence with professional certification.”

INCE Board Certification Background
The INCE Board Certification program has been operating in its current format since the early 1990’s. Currently there are approximately 200 professionals with active INCE board certification. The eight-hour INCE-USA Professional Examination evaluates the practical knowledge of an individual that has been gained from an engineering education along with at least five years of practical experience in noise control engineering. The examination covers the principles and practice of noise control engineering, including the application of the science of acoustics and vibration (mechanical dynamics), and understanding of the psycho-physiological properties of the human ear. Specialized topics include instrumentation and measurements, hearing conservation, and solving noise problems in the built environment, transportation systems, community noise exposure, and industrial processes such as mining, manufacturing, and energy production (both fossil-fueled and renewable) and transmission.
