The U.S. DOT Volpe National Transportation Systems Center in Cambridge, MA, is a federal agency dedicated to improving transportation by addressing emerging issues and advancing innovations across all modes. The center is fully funded by sponsored projects and collaborates with public and private organizations to deploy state-of-the-art transportation technologies and inform decision-making through comprehensive analyses.

Role Description
This is a full-time in-person/hybrid role for a Noise Modeler at U.S. DOT Volpe Center, with the ability to work remotely. The Noise Modeler will be responsible for conducting noise modeling studies, analyzing transportation noise data, developing noise mitigation strategies, and preparing technical reports. Additionally, the Noise Modeler will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (including economists, planners, geospatial experts, etc.) to support transportation projects.

Qualifications

  • Noise modeling (AEDT, NoiseMap, Advanced Acoustics Model- AAM, Traffic Noise Model- TNM), data analysis, and technical reporting skills
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Experience in developing noise mitigation strategies a plus
  • Knowledge of transportation noise regulations and standards a plus
  • Proficiency in GIS software and noise modeling tools a plus
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with small teams in a hybrid work environmen
