About The Job
Dudek is seeking an Environmental Acoustician with 5+ years of experience to support our growing practice. As an Environmental Acoustician, you will take the lead role in preparing noise and vibration studies for projects ranging from community land use plans to transportation improvements, to commercial and residential developments in relation to Dudek’s Environmental Services Division.  This candidate could work from any of our California offices with the potential for a flexible hybrid schedule.

Duties and Responsibilities (may include some or all of the below): 

  • Preparation of noise and vibration studies for a range of projects.
  • Designing and leading field studies to measure and characterize existing noise and vibration conditions in project areas.
  • Conduct noise and vibration measurements to demonstrate compliance with noise ordinances, building codes, standards, specifications, and ANSI guidelines.
  • Conduct detailed acoustic modeling and mitigation analyses using software such as CadnaA.
  • Responsible for preparing noise impact assessments in accordance with CEQA / NEPA requirements.
  • Communicate and explain technical concepts to clients, prepare and deliver presentations to clients or public agencies.
  • Attend hearings and provide expert witness testimony as required for project permitting.
  • Build relationships with external clients and actively market Dudek's acoustic services.
  • Participate in preparing proposals in pursuit of future project work opportunities.
  • Handle multiple tasks, coordinate effectively with others, and work independently within a team.
  • Training and mentoring junior staff in the technical aspects of environmental noise and vibration impact assessment.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering, Physics, Acoustics, Environmental Science, or related subjects.
  • 5+ years related experience and proven track record in acoustic consulting pursuant to the requirements of CEQA and NEPA.
  • Knowledge, understanding, and experience with transportation and construction-related noise and vibration analysis methodologies accepted by FHWA/FTA and advanced noise modeling software such as CadnaA
  • Experience developing and using spreadsheet-based noise and vibration models
  • Experience using equipment and accepted methods to measure sound and vibration.
  • Microsoft Office suite (MS Excel experience required)

  • Strong quantitative and/or modeling skills a plus

  • Service-oriented, motivated self-starter with sound business practices

Physical Requirements
Working Conditions:

  • This job operates in a remote or office-based environment and this role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, etc.
  • This job requires occasional project site visits-based outdoors which can include excessive noise, uneven walking surfaces, extreme weather, moving vehicles and equipment.

Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met in order to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

  • This job requires working on a computer, sitting or standing for long periods of time in an office or remote office setting.
  • This job requires attending meetings, both in person and virtually as well as speaking on the phone with peers, clients, etc. Speaking, hearing and listening are required.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Outdoor activity may involve walking/trekking in uneven terrain over long distances in extreme weather conditions for extended periods of time.

Proposed Salary Range: $70,000 - $80,000 annually*

*Final agreed upon compensation will be based on a variety of factors including but not limited to an individual’s related experience, education, certifications, skills, and work location.
